The James Colah Project – To Be With You

(1 customer review)

James Colah is back with another single – “To Be With You”. This time James partners with UK guitarist Ben Pedley for yet another upbeat offering. The combination of Colah and Pedley works well on this track. The transitions between the two are virtually seamless.

As with most of James’ work, there are a multitude of layers to this composition. Including the addition of vocals from Colah himself (in the vein of George Benson and Steve Oliver).

Pedley’s guitar playing is reminiscent of Chris Standring’s. I especially like the addition of the “retro” guitar fills (think 70’s R&B). Colah again delivers an upbeat, catchy tune that he is becoming known for.

This is an instance where a great song is complimented by equally great musicianship. This is definitely a tune that belongs on your personal playlist.

What can I say? “To Be With You” is an instant favorite! Love love how the melody lures the listener into a mellow mood while delivering a few surprises along the way. First the rhythm and the beat begin smooth as the Serengeti, then the vocals add a touch of silk. That would be more than enough for any smooth jazz lover, but ohhhhh! Those keys join in and suddenly this becomes something really special. Take it from me, James Colah is a smooth jazz virtuoso, but with “To Be With You”, he really takes music to another level.
